Bernheim Forest Engagement Session | Kaitlyn & Logan

May 31, 2022

Bernheim Forest Bardstown Kentucky

Bernheim Forest began as a dream of Isaac W. Bernheim.

Bernheim was born in Schmieheim, Germany in 1848 and immigrated to the United States in 1867. Although he started out in the Northeast, he eventually moved to Kentucky to get into the distilling business.

Isaac Bernheim created I. W. Harper in 1872 but that wasn’t his only passion.

In 1929, he purchased the land that would become Bernheim Forest. Mr. Bernheim’s dream was to provide a place that people could get back in touch with nature and all of the beauties it had to offer.

He did just that.

Bernheim Forest opened to the public in July of 1950 and celebrated its 90th birthday in 2019.

Over 500,000 people visit Bernheim Forest every year, both U.S. citizens and abroad.

Kaitlyn and Logan chose Bernheim Forest as the venue for their engagement session not only because of the sheer beauty, but because it started with a dream and grew into a legacy.

We all dream of finding our true love and these two did just that.

At Green Apple Photography, we like to give our couples questionnaires to fill out so that we (and you as the reader) can know a little bit more about their beautiful love stories.

Below are there answers.

Date/Venue: January 2022, Memorial United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown

How did you meet? We met our freshman year of college when both of us moved in early as a part of our service organization.

Logan and I became fast friends and my friends and the RA in my hall practically thought he lived there since he was around so much.

When/where did you go on your first date? Our first date was October 10th, 2015 in Somerset, KY. and it was a whole day’s affair.

First, Logan took me to the local coffee shop, Baxter’s Coffee, and gave me a bouquet of flowers.

Next, we took a trip to Bear Wallow Farm, where Logan and I took a hayride, picked out pumpkins, and petted baby goats.

Finally, we stopped by Steak n’ Shake for burgers, fries, and milkshakes. He wanted the day to be perfect and it truly was because I got to spend it with him.

Tell me a bit about how you fell in love?

Logan: I fell in love with her passion.

Kaitlyn is passionate about so many things: animals, justice, people.

Seeing her caring nature and her desire to help all kinds of people really made me realize she was the one for me.

Kaitlyn: I fell in love with Logan’s humor, his confidence, and his caring nature.

I consider myself to be a pretty serious person, I am not the type of person to laugh very much, but that changed when I met Logan.

I like to think that we balance each other out, he makes me laugh while I bring out his serious side every now and then. I also fell in love with his caring nature.

Logan isn’t complacent with seeing a problem and not working to fix it.

Together we’ve fed individuals facing homelessness, we’ve been camp counselors for medically fragile children, we’ve delivered meals to families facing poverty, and each time we do so I am reminded that this is why I love him.

When/where did your fiancé propose? Logan proposed on October 10th, 2020 – five years after our first date.

The original plan, I later found out, was to propose where we had our first date, Bear Wallow Farm, but it was closed that day due to rain.

Logan and my best friend Zoie, who he had gotten to help him with the plan, made some quick changes and convinced me to go to a spot near Buck Creek where Logan and I had taken some silly couples’ photos our Sophomore year of college.

On a rainy day in October of 2020 Logan got down on one knee beside Buck Creek and asked if I would marry him and I said yes, then on a rainy day in January of 2021 we had our engagement photos taken.

I guess that rain is in our forecast, but we have heard that rain at a wedding is supposed to be good luck so bring it on!

What are you most excited for about your wedding? Our playlist.

Throughout our relationship, music has always been at the core.

We first bonded over the love of the same music and one of the first things we did together was go to see the Avett Brothers in concert.

We cannot wait to share with our friends and family the tunes that defined our relationship.

If your love story was a movie, what would you title it? Slow & Steady.

Logan and I have been dating for five years, we have watched friends start dating and get married, but we are content to move at our own pace.

While we cannot wait to get married, we wouldn’t change our timing for the world – slowly getting to know each other, grow with each other, and love each other.

Describe your relationship in five words? Always laughing and always loving.

What is something that means the most to you both? The little family that we have created for ourselves.

We adopted our cat, Angus, in August of 2019 when we got our first apartment. I had wanted a cat of my own for the longest time, but Logan was a little hesitant.

Logan had only ever had dogs as pets, but still he agreed when I brought up the idea of adopting a cat.

Angus is an all black, disabled cat that had been at the vet’s office his entire life, just waiting for someone to take him home.

Our little family might not seem like much, and there are some that might question that we value our cat over most everything else, but he has been a constant companion to us throughout COVID-19 and even before.

He is practically our child and as such is very spoiled, and we cannot imagine our lives without him.

What vendors did you wear or use for your engagement outfits?

Target, TJ Maxx, Kohls, and Goodwill (nothing fancy).
