Kentucky Derby Festival Balloon Glow, Louisville Kentucky
Imagine standing on the waterfront, the bright sky is fading into night and there is a twinkling glow of the Kentucky Festival Balloon Glow. You’re with the love of your life so you hardly notice the people all around.
That’s what it’s like to have your engagement photos at the Kentucky Derby Festival Balloon Glow.
Magic is all around with the electricity buzzing from the festival rides, there is music in the air and everything is alright.
The Kentucky Derby Festival Balloon Glow is a must-see event, even if you’re not snuggling up for engagement photos like our couple Morgan and Zack.
The balloons are synchronized to music across the night sky and you can walk all around talking with the balloon pilots.
We think the Kentucky Derby Festival Balloon Glow is worth checking out even if you’re not attending one of the races!
Enjoy the photos of Morgan and Zack that we captured as you read their answers to the Green Apple Photography questionnaire.
How did you meet?:
We are both fluent in American Sign Language so we met as camp counselors at a Deaf/HOH summer camp
When/where did you go on your first date?
We were best friends for 5 years before we started dating so I’m not really sure where the first official “date” was! It probably involved Mexican food and ice cream.
Tell me a bit about how you fell in love?
Zach asked me to marry him the day we met. When I turned him down, he asked for a date. I said no…and continued to say no for 5 years. We were friends and talked nearly every day, hung out several times a week, and knew everything about each other–good, bad, ugly. It’s no joke that literally one day out of nowhere, I looked at him and he just looked different to me. After hanging out all day and having this weird feeling, I leaned over and kissed him. His shocked reaction is still one of my favorite moments. From that point on, we’ve been inseparable.
How did your fiancé propose?:
He got on one knee and said “this is why I’ve been lying to you all week. I was trying to be sneaky so you didn’t know I was proposing” and I promptly yelled “omg, I’m scared” and ran away! That wasn’t how I thought it would happen but it’s fitting and so funny now!
Where/when did your fiancé propose?
He proposed to me in the very spot we met at the campsite we have worked at for so many years!
What are you most excited about for your wedding?
We LOVE dancing so we’re most excited to get on the dance floor with all of our friends and family!
If your love story was a movie what would you title it?
“You should have dated him 5 years ago when he first asked, you idiot”
Describe your relationship in 5 words?
Playful, supportive, encouraging, humorous, carefree
What is something that means the most to both of you?
Our friendship. Being friends so long before we started dating, we love having that aspect in our lives still
What is your favorite thing about your fiancé?
Zach supports me like no other. He believes in me more than I believe in myself and he pushes me to be better every single day. (And he’s funny. That’s a plus too)
How have you grown as a couple since you started dating?
Zach and I are total opposites. That was why I never thought we could date. However, being so different has really filled in gaps rather than driving wedges between them. He’s strong at what I am weak at and vice versa. We are able to use each other’s gifts together to build a better relationship and navigate life as a team.
Favorite Quirk about each other?
We’re both terrible at impressions but think that the other is really good at them so we have full conversations using them pretty often!
If you could spend 24 hours with your fiancé, what would you be doing?
We’d start off by trying a local winery around town, eat lunch at Bungalow Joe’s, and then sit on our favorite spot on the couch and watch Survivor!
When do you feel most loved by your person?
I feel cliché answering this way but all the time. Zach is such a special person and one of the qualities I love most about him is that he ALWAYS makes me feel loved and it’s in the little things. He insists on hugging as soon as we get home from work before anything else, he always answers the phone “well hello there gorgeous!” and he checks in on me every single day–stressful or not.
What vendors did you wear or use for your engagement outfits?
This was a last-minute photo opportunity and I really wanted something funky and fun so I just grabbed stuff from my closet! No idea where it’s from, oops!
