Galt House Hotel Louisville Kentucky
Not many people realize how long the Galt House Hotel has been a part of Louisville history.
In 1835, the Galt House Hotel, containing 60 rooms was opened across the street from Dr. Galt.
Although it has had a face lift since then, it has remained Louisville’s only waterfront hotel.
With that much history, and sheer beauty, it’s no wonder why Shelly & Will chose this venue as their backdrop for one of the most important days of their lives; the day they became husband and wife.
Shelly & Will are what fairytales are made of. The love they have for each other is ever present and can be seen for miles and we, at Green Apple Photography, wish them decades of happiness.
We asked the couple to fill out a questionnaire after their big day.
Below are their answers.
How did you meet?:
It depends who you ask this questions to.
Will likes to make up stories to tell people, his most popular answer is that we met at church.
One of my favorites is that he was struggling to find some ingredients in the grocery store, and dropped everything on the floor when he saw me turn down the aisle. I stopped to help him pick it up and the rest is history!
The truth – we met online, on the Bumble app
When/where did you go on your first date?
Game, a restaurant that serves wild game. It happened to be half-priced meatball night so we ordered a platter of different meatballs and shared them
Tell me a bit about how you fell in love?
We were both a little cautious at first, but as we started getting to know each other everything felt so comfortable and organic, like it was meant to be.
We would go out to dinner and spend hours talking only to realize we were the only people left in the restaurant.
As we started meeting each other’s families it was crazy how many connections there were.
We like to think we were always meant to be, God was just waiting for the right moment to Introduce us.
Where/when did your spouse propose?
Will proposed at Bernheim Forest near the amphitheater down by the lake.
It was November 14, 2020.
I had no idea It was happening that day, we were just heading out to hike with some of his friends. When we got down to the lake we let the kids run around for a bit and he pulled me to the side and gave me a letter.
When I started reading the letter I realized what was about to happen.
I looked up and he dropped to one knee and asked me to be his wife. It was perfect!
His friends were in on it and able to capture some really special photos and videos for us. Afterwards we had champagne and cookies to celebrate.
If you love story was a movie what would you title it?
It’s a Wonderful Life
Describe your relationship in 5 words?
Honest, Passionate, Sincere, Beautiful, Loving
What is something that means the most to both of you?
Family – we both come from larger families that are very close and are always getting together to hang out
What was the most anticipated part of your wedding day for you both?
For me it was 2 things, when the doors opened and I saw Will for the first time that day and walked down the aisle towards him.
And secondly when we exchanged our vows with each other.
Will says he was anticipating saying our vows and being introduced as Mr. and Mrs. William Heinemann at the end of the ceremony.
Were you nervous? How did you squash those nerves?
I really wasn’t nervous, my sister even asked me how I was being as cool as a cucumber.
I think focusing on what matters the most and knowing that I had found my perfect forever in Will and by the end of the day we would be man and wife kept me calm.
The only time I really felt the nerves was about 10 minutes before I walked down the aisle.
I was still in a room downstairs at the church with my sister and we could hear the processional starting upstairs.
The anticipation and excitement kicked in but as soon as the doors opened and I saw Will, the nerves were all gone.
What song did you walk down the aisle to?
We had a traditional catholic ceremony, so the bridal party walked down the aisle to Cannon In D and I walked down the aisle to Trumpet Voluntary.
What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?
Going through this crazy ride of life and all of its adventures with each other as well as growing our family.
What was your wedding inspiration?
We are both a little traditional, so for our ceremony we wanted traditional, romantic, classic.
For our reception it was important to us that everyone got to celebrate and dance the night away.
We wanted a fun but classy and elegant vibe.
What’s your wedding song and the significance?
Better Together by Luke Combs – We knew it was our song when I suggested it to Will and when we listened to it we both got tears in our eyes.
We feel like it describes our relationship.
What song did you dance to for your parent dances and why?
Daddy Daughter – Dance with my daughter by Jason Blaine.
I made a big playlist & Dad and I listened to the whole thing and swiped left or right. Ultimately we both really loved the lyrics of this one.
Mother Son – You are my sunshine by Chris Stapleton because this is the song that Will’s mom always sang when they were little.
She still sings this to the grandkids today.
What advice do you have for anyone getting married?
Be sure to slow down and take it all in, it really does go by in the blink of an eye.
When you get stressed focus on why you are getting married and keep things in perspective.
We took 5 minutes before heading to the reception to share some appetizers just the 2 of us, be sure to take a few minutes with your new spouse.
How did you feel at the end of the day?
Oh all of the feels!
Excited and blessed to be married and to have had the opportunity to share and celebrate it with all of our family and friends.
Hopeful and giddy about all of the adventures to come. Most of all loved beyond measure.
