The Kentucky Castle, Versailles, Kentucky
The Kentucky Castle in Versailles, KY is an absolute dream come true. After all, what little girl doesn’t dream of getting married in a castle?!
This stunning wedding location is unlike any other you can find in the area and it will blow you away with its ornate details.
Located on more than 100 acres, there’s beauty around every corner, providing you with endless options for your wedding photos.
You’re probably thinking there’s no way this can get better. But wait, there’s more!
The Kentucky Castle even can accommodate guests in one of its 15 rooms! Not only can you get married in a castle, but you can also wake up in one, too!
What we really love is that it’s not just some old castle that feels cold and dingy, they’ve added so much to make this a prime getaway even if you’re not tying the knot.
Wondering what makes it so special? To start, guests at the Kentucky Castle can relax at the temperature-regulated outdoor pool while sipping bubbly and overlooking horse country.
Actually, this countryside castle isn’t as old as you’d think. Building began in 1969 after its developers, the Martins, fell in love with European architecture on their honeymoon. They returned with the desire to recreate something like what they saw on their trip.
Unfortunately, in 1975 the Martins divorced and the production of the castle came to a sudden halt.
And though it was put up for sale, the Kentucky Castle sat vacant for 30 years.
Tourists exploring the area would stop to wonder about this now roadside attraction.
In 2003 Mr. Martin died and the land and its castle were sold, while the new owner finished developing the castle. Startingly, in 2004, the main building of the castle caught on fire and was lost.
Construction and the rebuild finished in 2007 opening its doors to guests as a bed and breakfast.
While the opening of the castle was exciting, it still remained exclusive and only guests of the B&B and occasional special events were granted access behind its gates.
In 2017 the castle was purchased by new owners and given its namesake it carries today, the Kentucky Castle.
Now guests can visit the farm-to-table restaurant, indulge in the on-site spa, book an overnight stay, or a whole event here.
The boutique-style lodging really brings the old-feel ambiance into the modern century, offering the best parts of both worlds.
