The History of the Kentucky Castle

Construction of the Kentucky Castle began in 1969 by its original owners, Rex Martin and his wife Caroline. Inspired by the stunning architecture they had seen during a trip to Germany, the Martins envisioned a grand design for their castle. The original design included seven bedrooms, fifteen bathrooms, a fountain in the driveway, and a tennis court. However, in 1975, the Martins filed for divorce, leaving the castle unfinished.

In 1988, Rex Martin put the castle on the market but passed away before it was sold. Fifteen years later, the castle was purchased for $1.8 million by Thomas Post, a lawyer from Miami and a University of Kentucky graduate. There was speculation that the castle might be transformed into a medieval-themed restaurant or museum. However, fate had other plans. On May 10, 2004, a fire broke out in the main building, ruining the newly installed woodwork. Despite being in Miami at the time, Post had already invested considerable time and money in the renovations and was determined to see the project through. He completed the reconstruction in 2008, adding on twelve luxurious suites.

In November 2010, the property was listed for an impressive $30 million. While it was on the market, Post continued to operate the castle as an Inn. The castle was eventually sold in 2017 and now thrives as a successful bed and breakfast and special event venue. Additionally, The Castle boasts a highly acclaimed farm-to-table restaurant, a source of great pride for the current owners.

Picture this: everything is set in place, the music is playing softly, and your partner anxiously awaits for you to walk down the aisle. You gracefully descend the grand staircase into the main foyer, illuminated by stunning chandeliers. If you’re envisioning a wedding with a slightly larger guest list, the grand ballroom might be the perfect fit. With seating for up to 120 people, this exquisite ballroom boasts a bright and airy atmosphere, thanks to its expansive windows and numerous mirrors that reflect the natural light. The focal point of the room is undoubtedly the stunning crystal chandeliers that illuminate the space, creating a captivating and elegant setting for your celebration.

In addition to the Grand Ballroom, you have the option to include the Parlor in your rental. This versatile space can accommodate a bar or dinner buffet, providing additional support for your event. Imagine watching the sunset from this vantage point before dancing the night away under the stars. This area can support a bar, dancefloor, and even has built in bathroom facilities. The rooftop offers everything you need for an unforgettable celebration!
