Tips and Tricks to Get the Most out of Your Wedding Photography

Your fiancé dropped to their knees over the holiday season making you the happiest person in the world, and now you get to say the best two words of your life, “I do!”

While all the excitement of your new engagement can be wonderful, planning can become exhausting.

The last three years we’ve seen an uptick in how many brides are saying they are most excited just to have their wedding day over because the planning has taken such a toll on their health.

Here are the best tips we have to creating a stress-free, incredible wedding day which in turn will help you create the epic wedding photos you’ve been dreaming about.

1. Find Vendors Whose Style You Like AND You Click With

Venues, DJs, Florists, Oh my!

Choosing the right team of vendors is the first step toward your dream wedding, but too often we hear of brides who book their vendor team and never meet with them beforehand.

Personality goes a long way when stress is knocking on the front door.  You want a team who is not only there for the day, but more specifically that you can trust.

Read the reviews of the vendors you like.

Meet with them in person, or at the very minimum, via Zoom.

Make a list of questions to ask.  Here are 5 questions to ask your photographer.

In the end, doing your research up front is the best option when choosing your team.

2. Timeline is King

Information is power.  Especially when it comes to a wedding day.

Crafting and creating a timeline should be your number one priority if you want to get the most out of your wedding photography.  Add in your wedding photographers professional opinion, and voila! you’ve got yourself a sensational plan for a stress free day.

Why is it so important though?

First, it allows your vendors to know specific times they are needed throughout the day.  From your makeup and hair artists to the caterers, without a sequence of events its anyones guess when things are going to happen.

When you stop and think about it, who is going to be with you for the majority of the day (hint, it’s not your spouse).

Secondly, it gives you power over your day.  When you sit down to discuss a timeline with your wedding photographer or planner, you’re essentially telling them what’s most important to you.  Think about that before hand.

Third, a timeline helps you mitigate those small moments that can become disastrous.  Case in point; family formals.  Creating a list of family members also allows you to discuss any and all

Time is finite, especially on a wedding day.

If you value your wedding photos more than anything else, schedule a first look into your timeline.

3. Prep the Fellas

Boys will be boys, or so the saying goes, but here are a few tips and tricks you can suggest to make the day flow for the fellas.

  • Youtube how to tie a tie.  There are various styles and options, but knowing how to do this ahead of time allows the guys to spend more quality time together.
  • Have each groomsmen, and the groom, try on their rental when they get it.  The last thing you want is for one lucky groomsmen to have crop pants while the rest look dapper.
  • Make plans for the groomsmen beforehand.  Whether they plan to have brunch together, golf a quick nine, or simply head to the barber shop for a decadent shave, an activity (with ample time to return of course) can make a wedding day that much more enjoyable.

4. Be in the Moment

One day. 24 hours. 1440 minutes. That’s what your wedding day.

You have worked your boot-ah off with planning and organizing and creating the perfect vision that will lead you into a lifelong marriage.

So, with all the hoopla surrounding a wedding day, nothing pains us more than when a bride and groom aren’t able to really be present.

The small moments, the joyful tears, the hand-holding and kisses.

You deserve to truly enjoy the day.

Let me repeat that.

You DESERVE to enjoy your day.

Regardless of what happens throughout the day, knowing that you’ve hired the best team of vendors, you’ve created a timeline, and prepped the guys as best you can, you know that you’ve done your very best.
